Family rescued from Baldwin house fire as teen suffers smoke inhalation, officials say

First responders rescued three people from a Baldwin house fire early Saturday morning, officials said.

The Baldwin Fire Department responded to the scene, on McKinley Street, after receiving a call for a fire at the two-story home at 1:46 a.m., David Maickel, of the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office, said in a release.

Firefighters and police responders removed three people from the home. A smoke detector woke up the family, Maickel said.

The Freeport, Oceanside, Long Beach, South Hempstead, Hempstead, Island Park and Rockville Centre fire departments assisted on scene, with around 120 firefighters. The fire was brought under control in 50 minutes, Maickel said.

A 16-year-old was transported to the hospital after suffering smoke inhalation, according to the release.

The three people were displaced and the Red Cross was on the scene.

The fire marshal's office and the Nassau Police arson/bomb squad are investigating the cause of the fire.
