Suffolk cops corral pair of escaped horses on LIE service road during morning commute
Two horses joined Wednesday morning commuters on a Long Island Expressway service road in Holtsville, Suffolk police said.
That is where they were herded slowly and carefully by two police cars — and returned to their owners, police said.
The two steeds, a small black and a larger white, were videoed, first cantering and then easing to trots behind and then in front of the police cars, which were trailed by at least two other motorists on Express Drive North near Exit 62.
"Officers made contact with the owners to retrieve the horses," the police statement said.
The bid for freedom could have alarmed and imperiled both the horses and commuters as the police — who did not release the mounts' names — said it occurred around 7:25 a.m.
No information was available on the owners, how the horses got onto the LIE or their condition.
