A Middle Island motorist who crossed into oncoming traffic in Rocky Point on Wednesday afternoon was killed when he collided with another vehicle, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
About 1:30 p.m., David Maiman, 44, was heading north on Rocky Point Yaphank Road in a 2020 Lexus when a 2020 Jeep "veered into the northbound lane" and struck him, the Suffolk police said Monday in an updated news release. A previous version of the release said Maiman "veered into the southbound lane" and struck the Jeep.
Maiman was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Jeep driver, a 45-year-old Port Jefferson man, was treated for minor injuries at Stony Brook.
Police impounded both vehicles for safety inspections as an investigation into the crash continued.
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the collision to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
