Long Island's 94 village and town justice courts generated $46.9 million in 2024, up 12.7% from the nearly $41.6 million raised in 2023, according to data from the state comptroller's office.

The jump is more than double the increase between 2022 and 2023, when revenue totals rose by $2.4 million, or 6.1%, a Newsday analysis found.

The revenue stems from a mix of violations of state and local laws, according to the data. The money that's raised by the courts is split among the state, county and town or village.
