Battle-hardened Long Island commuters were greeted Monday morning with the welcoming, all-is-good phrase of the Long Island Rail Road: "On or close."

All 11 branches of the nation’s largest commuter railroad were running on schedule Wednesday morning, one day after a tentative agreement was reached between the MTA and five striking unions.

Full service resumed Tuesday night after the parties reached a four-year deal announced Tuesday morning, but not before causing commuting nightmares for tens of thousands of Long Islanders. Commuters boarded shuttle buses and navigated clogged highways and found various ways to get to work.
