Minutes after the Knicks clinched the NBA championship, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that New York City will host a ticker-tape parade and City Hall ceremony Thursday to honor the team’s first championship in more than five decades.
The parade will started at 10 a.m. at Battery Park and travel north on Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes, then end at City Hall, the mayor's office said.
Mamdani will host a Key to the City ceremony on City Hall Plaza after the parade.
Even though the team won championships in 1970 and 1973, this year's ticker-tape parade will be the first in Knicks history.
Former New York City Mayor John Lindsay suspended ticker-tape parades shortly after taking office in 1966, citing disruptions to shopping and traffic, making exceptions for major events like astronaut landings. The last parade was in November 2025 when Gotham FC won its second National Women's Soccer League championship in three years.
"For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment. Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks. And this team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart — just like the five boroughs itself," Mamdani said in a statement. "Now it’s time for our city to celebrate together. Bing bong."
Mamdani said City Hall and municipal buildings across the city will be lit in blue and orange — the Knicks’ colors — on Thursday to celebrate the victory. The team will also be presented with keys to the city at the ceremony.
