Hospitals now must post their prices for hundreds of services, under federal rules that took effect last year. In some cases, the rates differ by tens of thousands of dollars depending on the hospital and insurance plan. Hospitals must post prices for at least 300 services, and they must include 70 key services identified by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Here are three examples of the price variations.

Use Newsday's database to compare prices for all 70 services. Search by hospital, health system, service name or billing code; click on a column to order by price.
